Maggie Gercken is the animator behind Mycelia Animation Studios. She is graduating in May 2025 with her BFA in Kinetic Imaging from Virginia Commonwealth University. Her work discusses topics of death, grief, and climate change through stop-motion.

Mycelia is the plural form of the word Mycelium, the vegetative part of a fungus that forms complex networks underground. Creating communication pathways between fungi is just one of its many functions.
